These baseboard grills are made of white powder coated steel. They will sit 7/8" out from the wall. The size is based on the size of the hole. If you measure your hole and it is 24 x 8 then you would order a 24 x 8 grill. The faceplate would be 1 1/4 inches large then listed size. So a 24 x 8 would actually have a faceplate of 25 1/4" x 9 1/4".
